How much can you trust a background check agency?

That’s a good question actually.

The agency that is going to carry out the background check for you should be totally reliable, but how do you ensure that?  By following standard procedures and benchmarks.

Employee background check agencies depend a lot on testimonials and recommendations and you can easily ask around within your own industry or from other industries. Sometimes it is not possible (for client confidentiality) for the background check agency to furnish details of the clients it has been serving but nonetheless you can perform your own background routine on the agency by digging up information on the Internet and by seeking references. It may seem a bit daunting in the beginning but in the long run it will save you from lots of strain and losses.

First of all you can check out its website. Almost every dependable employee background check agency these days has a business website and I would suggest you should avoid an agency that does not have an online presence because even if you can trust it, it is clearly not in sync with the times. These days there is no excuse for not having a business website.

The website must contain verifiable contact information, persons in charge, full address, as many facts about the agency as possible and a decent list of clients. As I have already mentioned above it might not be possible to list all the clients but still sometimes you may find a few references.

You can also straightaway call them up and ask for references and performance history. An agency having reputed accounts or a large base of clientele can be easily trusted.

Once you have verified a particular background check agency you can establish a long-term relationship with it because as a thriving business you’re always hiring new employees and promoting existing ones.
